I'm going to delete my X account because Musk gives me the shudders. Love you Bear 🐻 ❤️🫂. By the way, I thought you said you were going to have a break? So go, bugger off and have a break, bad Bear 🐻 🫂🫂🫂🫂🫂❤️❤️❤️❤️
Dear Bear, you caught me on the fainting sofa. I've been an avid reader of yours ever since. I have the deepest respect for you. I couldn't have survived the elections of 24 without your fact vs fiction narrative of the whole shitshow.
I Iove reading your posts then boring my politically agnostic partner with your points of view. I told him you were walking away from X, he suggested I do the same & take up knitting! Because he, unlike the community you've built up doesn't believe in people power. I argue differently you can't wear people power like knitwear you just have to feel it.
Now. I thought you were taking a break. Go enjoy it, you deserve it.
Just downloaded all my data from Twatter and deleting my account as of 1st Dec to strike out where some intelligence clings on by its finger tips.
Trump has just turned over a bunch of yesteryear's discarded leaves to uncover and infestation of anthropomorphised slugs to whom he has offered their first, meaningful, opportunity at existence in world based on what they know best - fake news and lies and, best of all, a world devoid of effective slug repellent.
Oddly my fear of not knowing what's going on, is balanced perfectly by the reduced everyday toxicity of Twatter engagement. It's lovely my friends :-)
I left SpaceKaren’s X (it stopped being worthy of the Twitter name a long time ago) months ago and I am feeling so much lighter now, no longer being weighted down by the increasingly toxic atmosphere there. I’m still on FaceAche, but only because the only people I’m connected to there are my family and some very special friends. Nobody ever had my true personal details anyway and the increased control over my social media habits has been liberating and I would recommend it to everyone!
I'm going to be leaving Xitter as well- although I've heard that closing your account(s) can lead to others adopting your name. I'm small fry, so I doubt it would be an issue for me, but ppl with larger followings might want to take that into account.
Great piece, our overall philosophies do need to change. I left a large account on twitter because I felt like I had become part of the Conservatives culture war. It’s one thing finding what certain members of society stand for abhorrent but another adding more toxicity into the mix. We need to start asking different questions, why are certain people in society so disenfranchised, so full of fear and hate? Many different answers from major ones like poverty and education, to simpler ones like having the ability to type away on social media, posting awful views without giving it a second thought. Even now I rarely see those views in society, which is a good thing (unless i’m the exception.) Either way I think Bears fab stacks/posts and the thought of leaving X gives us the opportunity to step back and ask if we may have unintentionally become part of a culture war. As for space Karen and co, billionaires have been hiding behind the scenes in politics for a long, long time but this is new and pretty terrifying. Thank you for bringing people together bear!✌️
I’ve personally been guilty of adding to the toxicity, and being human (ish), I imagine I may do so in the future again, but I am going to try and change my approach.
I thought you were taking a break? Go and do anything that takes your mind off the omnishambles in which we find ourselves and maybe go and be the Bear that anyone would like to meet in the woods. Love your work and I’ll still be here when you have decompressed. In the meantime, I have nearly finished my current book and yours is next on the list ❤️
What we have with Musk is someone who is becoming a quintessential Bond villain made flesh. He's already flexing his political muscles by his criticism of the government of this country. Twitter has become a cesspool of hatred, bias and bigotry since took over the platform.
He now has publishers terrified of publishing any book that, in his view, criticise him or point out any negative sides of potential personality. Darryl Cunningham has book he'd like to publish in English. Currently, he has only had it printed in French. However, his attempts to have the book - Elon Musk: Investigation into a New Master of the World - printed in his native tongue have run into a brick wall. It would appear that potential publishers in fear of being sued by Mr Musk (read the article here - https://amp.theguardian.com/technology/2024/nov/23/we-live-in-a-climate-of-fear-graphic-novelists-elon-musk-book-cant-find-uk-or-us-publisher).
It wouldn't surprise me if he didn't make a bid for Presidency in 2028/9. That places extreme power in the hands of a man who is thin-skinned egomaniac.
As it is, his influence, via his access to Trump, will decide how the Donald views other nations. As he is providing a safe haven for Far Right politicians, commentators and their supporters on his platform, he has clearly laid down his marker.
He has already described Britain's current government as "Marxist" and is doing his level best undermine it at every turn. It is not unreasonable to suppose that his influence on Trump would lead to a cooling of Anglo-US relations until a government that meets with their joint approval comes to power.
There's an old Chinese curse - May you live in interesting times. Well, it'll certainly be interesting and not in a good way!

Well done bear 🐻 I’ve deleted my X account after 8000 followers and 12 yrs but I’m free of the vile hypocrisy at last to roam the sky like an Eagle 🦅

The bird has sadly been poisoned.
Already in bluer skies and following you on there. I think it's important to eXit and go to a safer place. So flying off 🕊❤️

Thanks, Pete - much agreed.

I can't find you in the sky! What is your name (handle?) there?
Hi Lin, it’s @bearlypolitics.co.uk 🐻
Thank you!

Well put!
